Abstract

To evaluate the effectiveness of CatanDog's tag in repelling natural ticks and fleas. 25 dogs from a rural area of Castilla la Mancha, the area with the greatest natural infestation of ticks and fleas in dogs, were used in this study. 15 dogs were administrated with CatanDog's tag and 10 were used as controls. The dogs were not previously treated with any chemical insecticide for a year, were housed in a clean shed 12m x 15m, and were let loose once a day, for around 3-4 hours. The average of fleas/ticks was counted in the dogs of each group on day 1, day 28, and day 61. The duration of this project was 2 months.
Conclusion: The study concluded that there were significant differences in the 3 days of the study between the average number of fleas detected in the treated group, in contrast to the untreated group. The study also concluded that the group of dogs with a tag produced a significant decrease on day 28 and ticks disappeared from that day onward, while the control dogs exhibited no decrease in ticks during the same 2 month period.
